This year we mark the 80 th  anniversary of our Nation’s entry into the 2 nd  World War and this, just 21 years after the conclusion of the 1 st  World War. We remember the veterans of those wars and other conflicts today. We remember the peace that soldiers and others died still longing for. We remember. We remember: at 11:00 on this day 101 years ago church bells rang out celebrating peace after 4 horrible years of war in which 888 246 fatalities were suffered by the military of the British Empire of which Canada was an integral part. When World War One broke out Canada was a country of just over 7 million people. This is a very important passage for our world today. Judges 2:1-5: The angel of the LORD went up from Gilgal to Bokim and said, "I brought you up out of Egypt and led you into the land that I swore to give to your forefathers. I said, 'I will never break my covenant with you, and you shall not make a covenant with the people of this land, but you shall break down their altars.' Yet you have disobeyed me. Why have you done this? Now therefore I tell you that I will not drive them out before you; they will be thorns in your sides and their gods will be a snare to you." When the angel of the LORD had spoken these things to all the Israelites, the people wept aloud, and they called that place Bokim (weepers). There they offered sacrifices to the LORD. Chapter One: the Son of the King. This story is about a young man by the name of Absalom. Now Absalom isn’t just any ordinary young man. He is a beautiful man. All the features that the people of his day love including the long following hair. And he has a gift. One of the most powerful kings that Israel would ever have and the founder of a dynasty that would last –well – with the advent of Christ, ultimately forever. God loved him and in his early days he followed the Lord religiously, in his early days sought the Lord’s council in everything he did, in his early days he was walking in a strong relationship with the Lord. Last summer was a weird summer for us. We didn't have any real family vacations. The older girls were both working. Rebecca was working out of town at the camp and Sarah-Grace was working all day in town at day camps; so we mostly just had Heather who we tried to keep busy through some great summer camps and lessons. We did try to make to most of our time together. The older girls and I saw some great concerts both in Toronto and in Buffalo this summer.  Susan, the younger two girls and I went to see the Martyr's Shrine where Father Brebeuf and others were martyred. That was really interesting. Sarah-Grace and I were going to go to an Argos game and Heather and I did go to a Blue Jays game. It was actually quite a full and busy summer on top of all the regular excitement of the rest of things around here. There were a couple of big corps events as well.
